Barn Burners!

  • St. Louis Church 12500 Clarksville Pike Clarksville, MD, 21029 United States (map)

Destiny Ann with Pianist Heather Adelsberger

A rousing evening of music in a true Bach to Barn Burners fashion!

Join us down on the farm with Charles Ives! You'll hear his raucous Barn Dance (think barn animal soirée + cowgirl visits the city/discovers rush hour), followed by a hauntingly beautiful Revival featuring the hymn of "Nettleton" (Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing).  Incorporating many exciting fiddle tunes such as Turkey in the StrawPopeyeMoney Musk and other American musical influences (RAGTIME!), this sonata is one of four that Ives completed at the peak of his composing career.

You'll also be treated to some boot-stomping tunes by Henri Vieuxtemps, most especially in his closing work on our program, where interspersed moments of Vaudeville drama lead us into a final fiddle tune where both piano and violin attempt to wrangle one another in a duel of virtuosity, galloping wildly to the end!
